Spring Spectacular!

This weekend was our school annual fundraiser called the Spring Spectacular.  The PTA puts it on and it is a huge event.  There are games, horse rides, a garage sale, silent auction, raffle prizes, and our favorite: food booths from numerous different ethnicities.  This year, my favorite food was the Vietnamese eggrolls and the French crepes with Nutella.  Aden had a blast seeing all the people there and was a big hit with our students.  Jamie took his turn at the sponge toss.  Unfortunately, just as a slew of high schoolers found out he was there, his shift was over.  He wasn't disappointed at all.

I'm continuing to recover from my eye surgery.  The first few days were rough, but then the pain subsided.  I'd say my vision is almost 100%.  Sometimes I have trouble with reading on screens (like the computer) but most of the time I'm fine.  It has been almost surreal to not have to deal with contacts or glasses anymore.

As a way to say thank you to Jamie for always driving me to the doctor and taking care of me during recovery, the first thing I made with my new KitchenAid was crust for an apple pie.  We finished the last pieces on the 14th which was very fitting since it was Pi Day!  It has been a lot of fun to use our new "toy" and are currently experimenting with making breads.  Homemade bagels are my next big project to tackle.

Below are some pictures and a special message from Aden who really wanted to type on the computer:

Full Steam Ahead into Spring

A lot has been going on in the McGuire household the past couple of weeks.  From eye surgery, playing on the beach, ear infections, and Kitchen Aids.  We have run the gamut and come the other side intact.

Tara's PRK lazer eye surgery was scheduled for February 28th, but we got to the hospital that afternoon and it had been canceled!  We knew we missed some phone calls from the hospital, so we called and confirmed our appointment with the appointments desk, no problem.  Apparently it had not been canceled in the system, but the lazer needed to be re-calibrated, so we understood.  The following week (3 days ago), Tara had her surgery and the doctor said it was successful.  Tara and I went straight to the Kitchen Aid store and bought her ever so coveted stand mixer.  She is excited to use it.  Why hasn't she already been baking up a storm you might ask?  After her afternoon nap the day of eye surgery she woke up in severe eye pain and spent the next 47 of 48 hours in the bedroom with the lights off and shade down.  This is normal.  Now however, she is sitting and grading tests without glasses.  Her vision will gradually increase over the next weeks or months.  The hope is that she will be 20/20 as a final result.

There is a twist to the eye surgery cancelation that I have to share with you as well.  Aden spiked a fever on Monday, the day before the first scheduled appointment so I stayed home with him.  After he slept all morning his temp went up to 104.3 F.  It went down with tylenol, but we took him to the doctor to find out he had an ear infection.  A friend watched him on Tuesday at our house while we went to the eye doctor and Tara stayed home with him on Wednesday.  The last of his fever went away on Friday and he was finally back at school on Saturday.  It ended up being a three day week for both Tara and I, but Tara followed it up with another three day week this past week with her surgery.  It's been weird, but we are looking forward to getting back into the swing of things before spring break at the end of the month.

I could type for a while about playing at the beach, but the video is more fun to watch.

20 days until Greece!

Is that cold Aden?

The story is always the same.  Aden runs towards the water, only this time we let him go in.

If it looks like fun, it probably is . . . for Aden

The first beach time of the season.  This was also during his weekend of being sick.
